Odisha: Holy town Puri will soon be under CCTV surveillance

PURI (Odisha), Oct 16 : Plans are underway to bring Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath, under CCTV surveillance, District Collector Sidharth Shankar Swain announced on Wednesday.

A portable network with optical fiber systems and 620 CCTV cameras will be installed across various parts of the town, all connected to a command and control room to monitor the movements of anti-social elements and criminals, Swain said.

Most of the existing CCTV cameras in the town were destroyed during Cyclone Fani. The district administration has submitted a proposal to the state government to install state-of-the-art CCTV cameras to enhance security in the town.

The Collector mentioned that all the entry points to the town, including Atharnala, Mangalaghat, and Balighata, will be equipped with high-resolution CCTV cameras.

Key areas such as the Grand Road (popularly known as Badadanda), Gundicha Temple, Srimandir, the sea beach, and almost all the internal lanes of the town will also be brought under surveillance, he added. (UNI)
