KARGIL, Oct 17: The Income Tax Department, Srinagar, headed by the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, Vikram Sahay organized a programme in Kargil district of Ladakh today to raise tax awareness in the region.
The programme held at Conference Hall Baroo was aimed to enhance tax understanding among the local residents and provide clarity on various tax provisions. The Principal Commissioner was accompanied by Joint Commissioner Rahul Padha and Income Tax Officer Lokesh.
Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho; Additional SP, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman; District Officers; over 125 persons, including Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of different Government departments, hoteliers, contractors, and persons associated with other business outlets attended the programme.
During the session, the participants were informed about important provisions of the Income Tax Act, as well as the scope and benefits of exemptions and deductions specifically available under the Act for the residents of Ladakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Sahay informed that the purpose of the outreach programme was to address the concerns and apprehensions of the residents of Ladakh and resolve issues of concern. He mentioned that several residents of Ladakh have in the past received communication from the Department relating to cash deposits in Banks which were required to be replied to and explained.
The Principal Commissioner also requested the stakeholders to update their emails with the bank to receive such enquiries on time or respond to such emails, if received.
The participants raised their queries regarding various issues related to tax and actions taken in respect of non-compliance to the tax rules. The Income Tax officials patiently listened to the grievances and made every effort to address cases on an individual basis.
Responding to the queries, the Principal Commissioner informed that whoever has received any enquiry or demand notice should immediately reach out to the Department at its Srinagar office for resolution of issues.
The Principal Commissioner assured that the Department would dedicate two days at their Srinagar office to address issues related to Ladakh.
