POONCH, Oct 18: The family members, relatives and local villagers held protest when two Linemen of Power Development Department were injured after they received electric shocks while working on the power lines between Dhundak and Lassana in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district today.
Officials sources said that two PDD officials including a daily wager while initiating repair work on 11 KV line received electric shock due to which they sustained injuries. Both the persons were immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital Surankote for treatment, from where they were shifted to GMC Rajouri for advanced treatment.
BMO Surankote, Dr. Yousuf said that the condition of one was critical. Both the injured have been identified as Mohd Farooq (48), son of Faqir Mohd, a resident of Potha and Mohd Khaliq (45), son of Mohd Rashid, resident of Sanai village.
Meanwhile, families of the injured reached the site and blocked Poonch- Jammu highway at Sanai and staged protest demonstration. They alleged negligence on the part of PDD officials who released the power supply from the concerned station before completion of the urgent repair work.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Surankote, Farooq Nazki said that he went on the spot along with SHO and other officials, listened to the protestors and asked the head of department to submit report of this lapse.
He said that an FIR has already been lodged and strict action shall be taken if the negligence of any official is proved. He said the department will have to compensate both the injured officials and will also take care of their treatment.
