JJSF observes 3-day fast in memory of student martyrs

JAMMU, Oct 18: In solemn observance of Students’ Martyrdom Day, the Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) held a three-day fast at Shahidi Sthal GGM Science College, Jammu from 16th to 18th October to honor the brave students who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of higher education institutions in Jammu and in protest against the relocation of the Agriculture University from Jammu to Kashmir.
The 3-day event commemorated those martyrs whose sacrifices led to the foundation of Jammu University, Government Medical College, and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST).
On the concluding day, a Havan Yagna was performed, invoking blessings and paying homage to the martyrs. The fast concluded in the presence of Yudhvir Sethi, MLA of Jammu East constituency; Pushvinder Singh, State President of JJSF; Prof Romesh Gupta, Principal GGM Science College, and Prof B B Anand, Principal MAM College Jammu, who served juice to the fasting students.
In his address, Yudhvir Sethi praised the unwavering commitment of the students and JJSF activists, emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by the martyrs for educational development in Jammu. He noted that these sacrifices have paved the way for numerous higher learning institutions that benefit countless students today.
Keshav Sharma, General Secretary of JJSF, also addressed the gathering, highlighting pressing issues such as the deteriorating condition of Shahidi Sthal and the urgent need for female and public toilet facilities in the vicinity of GGM Science College.
Pushvinder Singh reaffirmed JJSF’s commitment to upholding the legacy of the martyrs. He urged the younger generation to carry forward their vision of educational empowerment.
The students who observed fast for 3 days, included Ritik Verma, Eklavaya Salathia, Sahil Dogra and Gourav Sharma. Others present on the occasion included Vishal Dogra, Kartik Minya, Vasu, Vansh Mahajan, Dhreej Pawa, Tuhed, Akash, Samaksh, Raghav Singh, Adil Qureshi, Danish Verma, Vansh Sharma, Munish Khullar, and Ansh.
Meanwhile, various organizations and individuals also visited the Shahidi Sthal in front of GGM Science College and paid tribute to the student martyrs.
