‘Election of LoP likely to be delayed’

JAMMU, Oct 18: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Core Group which met here today at party headquarters said that the people of Jammu have endorsed and stamped the Narendra Modi Government’s decision regarding abrogation of controversial Articles 370 and 35 A.
The Core Group said that people of J&K have also largely endorsed the pro people policies of Modi Government besides his steps in containing and eliminating the terror network from the UT. This was the first meeting of BJP Core Group after the Assembly poll in the UT.

Maintaining that BJP created an electoral history in J&K, the Core Group said the party not only secured ever highest 29 seats from Jammu region but also got highest number of around 26 percent votes.
It said though because of various factors and misleading campaigning by National Conference (NC), elections in Kashmir region turned one sided giving advantage to NC to form the Government in UT, but BJP emerged real victorious by creating electoral history in J&K.
The Core Group deliberated on various issues and as per sources it was of the opinion that in view of the oath ceremony of newly elected MLAs beginning from Monday and festivals of Karva Chauth falling on October 20 the election of the Leader of Party (LoP) can be delayed for some time.
The Core Group also threadbare deliberated other important issues including the election of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, the post likely to be offered to the party by NC and election of Rajya Sabha members.
The process for organisational elections also came up for discussion and it was stressed that the membership drive should be intensified.
The future course of action of the party was also deliberated in the meeting. All the members of the Legislative Assembly of UT have been asked by the Core Group to stand with commitment of the party and play the role of effective and vigilant opposition in the Assembly to ensure that no injustice is done to Jammu region by the Government of National Conference which is primarily a Kashmir centric Government. The Core Group also resolved to strengthen the democracy and democratic institutions in J&K and to mitigate the sufferings of the masses by its hard work, honesty and commitment.
The meeting which was presided over by the party president Ravinder Raina, was attended among others by Jugal Kishore, Member Parliament working president, Sat Sharma, national secretary, Dr. Narinder Singh, general secretary, Organization, Ashok Koul, general secretary, Vibodh Gupta and Dr. D.K. Manyal. Other members of the Core Group who were also present included Devender Singh Rana, Surjit Singh Salathia, Sham Sharma, Shakti Raj Parihar, Sunil Sethi, chief spokesperson, Ajay Bharti and Balwant Singh Mankotia.
The Core Group had in-depth discussion on the recently held elections and complimented the visionary leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for leading the party to unprecedented victory wherein not only the party created history by getting 29 seats but also procured highest percentage of votes of around 26% in the Assembly elections and stood at number one position so far as percentage of votes is concerned.
It also extended gratitude to the public of UT of J&K especially Jammu province who overwhelmingly supported the policies of BJP and extended their full support to the party. The Core Group noted that the victory of BJP and party standing at number one position in percentage of votes is a stamp of approval by the majority of public on the decisions taken by the Central Government in abrogation of Article 370 and number of such other decisions taken which have instilled confidence of the masses in the system and have largely extended in containing and eliminating the terror network from J&K.
The majority of the population of J&K also approved the development works of the Central Government and the LG administration in the UT of J&K and this is also reflected from the manifold increase in the vote share in Kashmir province also, the Core Group said.
It also greeted the workers of BJP who through their untiring support and work and commitment towards the party have convinced the public for standing with the principles of BJP of nation first.
The Core Group resolved that all the members of the Legislative Assembly belonging to BJP stands committed to work for the people of J&K particularly for Jammu region and will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that justice is done to the people of Jammu.
Meanwhile, BJP national general secretary, Tarun Chugh said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is trying to score brownie points by his statements on Statehood, for restoration of which PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Amit Shah have already made a commitment.
Chugh said that both had promised to restore the Statehood of J&K at an appropriate time.
“The things, which were told by PM Modi to deliver on, were done by him. Whether it was delimitation, peace, development, confidence building or conducting elections, all such things were fulfilled. The restoration of Statehood will also happen,” Chugh said.
He accused CM Omar Abdullah of trying to get Statehood restoration’s credit for himself.
Chugh said that Omar is deliberately making statements, which carry no heft, on Statehood when its restoration has already been promised.
BJP spokesperson, G L Raina also took Congress to task and strongly criticized it for “anti KP, anti PoJK displaced people stand.” He alleged that double standard of party are responsible for pain and displacement of these communities.
Raina said Congress and INDIA bloc which inherently are against the displaced communities because of their religious faith has exhibited its hatred once again by opposing the nomination to Assembly by LG of UT.
