KANGAN (GANDERBAL), Apr 28: National Conference president and Union Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah today said that the need of the hour was to save the country from the danger of Narendra Modi’s communal and divisive politics.
Addressing massive election rally here, Dr. Farooq said that the very idea of India was an idea of secularism, multiculturalism and multinational-ism and this was the idea of India that the State of J&K reposed its trust in when it acceded to the Union of India. “Today National Conference and J&K at large will be at the frontlines of a battle to safeguard that very idea of a secular and democratic India where every citizen has a right to dream of a better, prosperous future without limitations based on religion and creed”, he said.
Stating that PDP’s “lying machinery” had perhaps broken all world records of brazen lying, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has the unique distinction in the entire world of claiming credit for the historic bilateral diplomatic achievements between two Premiers of two countries who perhaps have never even spoken to Mufti Sayeed, leave alone consulted him in such affairs.
He said that National Conference will not allow BJP and PDP to divide the people of J&K on the basis of caste, creed and religion. “PDP fielded candidates tactically in Jammu to help BJP candidates and this is something that has been openly stated by Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof Soz of the Congress as well. They first tried to sabotage the NC-Congress coalition and once they failed, they fell right into the lap of Narendra Modi. This is the character of PDP”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister lambasted PDP and its leadership for carrying the bogie of false propaganda aimed at making people believe that NC has anything to do with the boycott of Lok Sabha polls.
“Mufti Sayeed and its team has no guts to name separatist leaders who have given the call for boycotting Lok Sabha polls”, he said, adding that instead of accusing separatist leaders on this count, PDP and its leadership is blaming National Conference which has time and again advocated a greater participation in the electoral process and has even rendered numerous sacrifices for upholding the cause of democratic institutions in J&K.
Omar Abdullah said that in yet another propagandist and apologist move that reeks of hypocrisy Mufti Sayeed has started pointing fingers of suspicion towards the Election Commission of India by casting aspersions about the fairness of polls in the Anantnag-Pulwama Parliamentary constituency. “By issuing such statements Mufti Sayeed has in advance conceded the defeat of his daughter Mehbooba Mufti contesting from Anantnag-Pulwama Parliamentary constituency. Rather than accepting defeat with grace, Mufti Sayeed is coming up with one excuse after another to start justifying the defeat of Mehbooba Mufti in advance”, he added.
The Working President, National Conference said that Mufti Sayeed’s politics is guided by the sole temptation of personal political ambitions. “Muftis can go to any extent for seeking power. We will soon observe the father-daughter duo imploring their mentors in New Delhi requesting for helping them to be in limelight willy-nilly”, he said and added that PDP’s trait has been falsehood and opportunism and its leadership when out of power is like a fish out of water.
Referring to the open support by PDP to Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister of India, Omar Abdullah said that the tactical fielding of candidates by PDP in Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituencies was aimed at dividing the votes and helping BJP. He referred to the statement made by former Chief Minister of the State, Ghulam Nabi Azad in this regard who has also substantiated this fact that contesting Parliament elections in Jammu and fielding candidates tactfully by the PDP was done with the sole objective to help BJP and Narendra Modi.
