70 village headmen resign

SRINAGAR, Apr 28: At least 70 village headmen have resigned after mysterious warning posters appeared on mosque walls, lamp posts and shop shutters at different places in Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama districts in south Kashmir.
Reports said 56 village headmen have resigned in Kakapora block in Pulwama district only. These village headmen are from the area of Parigam, Ratnipora, Kisrigam, Talangam, Narwa, Wagam and Gandipora resigned on Monday, including 13 Sarpanchs, one Deputy Sarpanch and 42 Panchs.
Fearing life, these village heads resigned following the killings of three village headmen in Tral and Gulzarpora areas of Pulwama district.
Among others Muhammad Ismail Bhat, Abdul Aziz Bhat, Deputy Sarpanch Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, Panchs Muhammad Shafi Bhat, Abdul Gani Bhat, Hamid Bhat Fatima Banoo, Manzoor Gojri resigned from Parigam Halqa, Sarpanch Sajad Andrabi, Deputy Sarpanch Gulzar Wani, Panchs Abdul Gani, Ishaq Ganaie, Yasmeena Bano and Amina Bano from Puchal, Sarpanch Haji Ghulam Ahmed Mir from Gandipora Halqa, Sarpanch Nisar Shiekh, Panchs Ghulam Mohi-u-Din, Bashir Mantoo, Aamina Banoo, Jabar Lone, Muhammad Akbar Dar from Kisrigam, Sarpanch Bashir Khan, Panchs Noor Muhmmad Sofi, Ghulam Muhammad Shah, Jameel Wani, Farooq Dar, Afrooza Banoo, Shameema Akhtar from Narwa, Sarpanch Muhammad Yousuf Rather, Panch Muhammad Anwar Bhat and Manzoor Ganaie form Lajoora, Sarpanch Ali Muhammad Ganaie, Panchs Ashraf Teli, Abdul Karim Hajam, Zubeeda Akhtar and Tasleems Akhtar from Talangam Halqa, Sarpanch Muhammad Akbar Bhat and Panch Haneefa Banoo from Wagam, Sarpanch Bashir Malik, Panch Bashir Rather, Nazir Rather, Ghulam Hasan Rather, Rashid Dar and Majeed Khan from Hakripora Halqa, Sarpanch Nazir Mir and Panch Shezada Banoo from Narrach Halqa.
Sarpanch Syed Hameedullah Andrabi, Bashir Ahmed Mir, Panchas Shafqat-ul-Islam, Mubeena Akhtar, Rafiq Dhobi, Shehzada Banoo, Haleema Akhtar, Hasan Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Reshi, Abdul Rashid Thoker and Bashir Ahmed Akhoon resigned from Ratnipora, Pulwama.
From Lethpora village in Pulwama district Sarpanch Abdul Gani Bulla Panchs, Mushtaq Ahmed Hanji, Yasmeena Majeed Muhammad Shafi Shah, Fayaz Ahmed Dar, Gulshana Fayaz from Khrew, Pampore, Nazir Ahmed Shiekh Laru, Kakapora, Sarjina Nisar from Sunargund, Awanitpora and Feroz Ahmed Bhat from Nayen resigned on Monday.
Over 300 village representatives belonging to different political parties have abdicated their posts after the killings in Tral.
In Kulgam district, four village heads, including, Nazir Ahmed Itoo (Hangal Buch) and Nisar Ahmed Wani (Balsoo) Panchs, Abdula Rehman Dar (Baripora) and Ali Muhammad Bhat (Hatipora), have reisgned.
In Anantnag district a Panch from Rooh village, Abdul Salam Rather son of Abdul Raheem has reigned.
