JAMMU, Oct 21: Taking a significant step towards promoting authentic, locally sourced products from the regions of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, the Ladakh Jammu Kashmir (LJK) multipurpose store was inaugurated here today.
The store is an initiative of LJK Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd. whose mission is to empower local communities in the region by providing a platform for small farmers and artisans to market their high-quality, authentic products.
D.N. Thakur, Chief of Sehkaar Bharti, was the Chief Guest during the event.
While inaugurating the store, Thakur emphasized the importance of cooperative principles as a guiding force in all aspects of life.
He said, “Cooperative principles are the essence of all life coexisting on the planet. Initiatives like The LJK Store demonstrate how communities can come together to create sustainable and equitable opportunities for all.”
He further lauded the efforts of LJK Multipurpose Cooperative for empowering local communities and preserving the region’s cultural heritage through this innovative platform.
Purshottam Dhadheechi and Harinder Gupta, who were the Guests of Honor, also commended the cooperative’s vision.
Dhadheechi, renowned social leader said, “The LJK Store is a shining example of how cooperative movements can uplift entire communities by preserving tradition and promoting self-sufficiency.”
Harinder Gupta said, “This initiative brings local artisans into the mainstream, ensuring they are rewarded fairly for their dedication and craftsmanship.”
The LJK Store offers a wide range of products, including organic farm produce, handcrafted textiles, and artisanal goods, all sourced directly from local farmers, FPOs and Self-Help Groups of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.
By providing a marketplace for these underrepresented producers, the store not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region but also ensures that small farmers and artisans receive fair compensation for their hard work.
Every purchase made contributes directly to the well-being of local communities, ensuring the preservation of traditional craftsmanship and sustainable farming practices.
