Dogra Group of Colleges, IIJSA pay rich tribute to heroes of 1947

JAMMU, Oct 25: Dogra Group of Colleges in collaboration with International Institute of J&K Studies and Analyses (IIJSA) here today paid rich tribute to the war heroes of J&K.
The event witnessed participation from esteemed dignitaries, students and faculty and all paid tribute to the valour and sacrifices of those who fought historic battles in 1947.
The chief guest was Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, the only surviving General of erstwhile J&K State Forces, who was warmly received by Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, Chairman of Dogra Educational Trust and the event convener.
The function started by the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and this followed a group song by the students of Dogra College of Education.
Dr. Shefali Sharma delivered the welcome address.
Brigadier Dr. Vijay Sagar Dheman introduced the legendary Brigadier Rajinder Singh, whose sacrifice was instrumental in defending the State.
Group Capt U.S Sambyal, grandson of Lt Col Narayan Singh, CO 4 JAK Regiment, vividly narrated the Battle of Muzaffarabad while Col Rajinder Singh, son of Capt (Later Col) Prithi Singh, recounted the Battle of Garhi (Northern Flank of Jhelum River).
Narsingh Dev Jamwal, sole survivor of Sub Duni Chand’s platoon, shared his harrowing experience of the Southern Flank of Garhi.
Finally, Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal delivered a poignant account of the Battle of Mahura, Rampur Buniyar and the martyrdom of Brigadier Rajinder Singh on October 27, 1947.
In his presidential address, Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak praised the heroes’ unparalleled contributions and called upon the younger generations to uphold their legacy of patriotism and selflessness.
Mementoes were presented to the dignitaries by Gulchain Singh Charak.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Shuchi Sharma.
