From Sports to the Spotlight

Sidhant Gupta, a dynamic actor and model from Jammu, has swiftly carved a niche for himself in the Indian entertainment industry.
Best known for his remarkable role in Amazon Prime’s “Jubilee”, Sidhant has also showcased his talent in films like “Bhoomi” and “Operation Romeo.”

His early years were filled with achievements in sports, representing Jammu & Kashmir at the National level in cricket, swimming, and basketball.
Starting as a model, he appeared at prestigious events such as Wills India Fashion Week and Delhi Fashion Week, setting the stage for a successful transition to acting.
Sidhant’s journey reflects his deep passion for the arts and his commitment to representing his roots on a national stage. Soon, he will portray Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the Sony Liv show “Freedom at Midnight”, an exciting new chapter in his career.

Here are the excerpts from an interview conducted by Ritesh Gupta and Bivek Mathur of The Excelsior, where Sidhant opens up about his path, influences, and aspirations.
Q1: Welcome back to your hometown, Sidhant! Are you here for any project or just for a break?
Sidhant Gupta: Thank you, Ritesh. Being home during the festive season is always wonderful. It’s a refreshing break.
Q2: Can you tell us how your journey began, especially since you initially aspired to be a pilot?
Sidhant: While preparing for my CPL in Delhi, I ventured into part-time modelling, which opened doors. Initially, the glamour attracted me, but gradually, I felt drawn to acting. Now, I feel like I was meant to be an artist.
Q3: Do you still dream of becoming a pilot?
Sidhant: I’d love to fly a plane someday-somehow!
Q4: What has changed from your first audition to now?
Sidhant: As Jawaharlal Nehru once said, “Fear is not a good friend.” This line resonates with me. Growing up, many of us are conditioned to hold onto fear, but I believe it limits us. Acting has allowed me to confront vulnerability. This journey has been transformative, especially now with “Freedom at Midnight.”
Q5: You’ve represented J&K in various sports. Can you tell us about it?
Sidhant: I was always more engaged on the field than in classrooms. I played cricket, then shifted to swimming, and finally basketball. My teacher at J&K Public School, Satinder sir, once called me a “jack of all trades” and urged me to master one. Perhaps I was meant to become an artist instead!
Q6: How does it feel to be listed among the 50 sexiest Asian men?
Sidhant: (Laughs) Feeling sexy as we speak.
Q7: Which of your characters inspires you the most?
Sidhant: Playing Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has been particularly inspiring.
Q8: Who is your role model?
Sidhant: Elon Musk. I’m a dreamer at heart, and he’s turning fantasies into reality.
Q9: Could you share more about your dream project or upcoming work?
Sidhant: My upcoming project “Freedom at Midnight” just wrapped. More exciting announcements are on the way!
Q10: What role has family and friends played in your journey?
Sidhant: My understanding of emotions comes from my family and close friends. They are truly dear to me.
Q11: Would you consider a Dogri film in the future?
Sidhant: Absolutely, if the project is meaningful and contributes to our cultural landscape.
Q12: Any thoughts on Jammu & Kashmir’s film policy?
Sidhant: It’s fantastic. Writers now have more opportunities to explore local stories. While filming in Poland recently, I noticed strict “no loitering” policies to maintain the area’s beauty. I hope similar measures can be applied here, given J&K’s stunning landscape.
Q13: A message for Jammuites?
Sidhant: There’s something pure and preserved here in J&K-the values of family, friendship, and community. Let’s continue to honor and build on this, inspiring each other.
Q14: Could you share about your preparation for the role of Nehru in Freedom at Midnight?
Sidhant: It’s been an honour to play such an iconic leader. I’d love to delve deeper into my experience once the series is out.
