Six ISKCON members die as car rams into a lorry

ANANTPUR ( AP), Oct 26: In a ghastly road accident, six members of ISKCON were killed when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a lorry coming from the opposite direction at Nayanapalli crossroads on the Anantapur-Kadapa highway in Singanamala Mandal on Saturday.

 

 

Police said that the deceased persons were the members of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) located here. They went to Tadipatri town to participate in the Nagara Sankeerthana programme. After the programme, they went back to Anantapur from Tadipatri.

 

 

The tyre of the car, in which they were travelling, got burst resulting in the driver losing control over the car and it collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction.

 

The deceased were identified as Santosh, Shanmukh, Venkanna, Sridhar, Prasanna and Venkat. All the deceased were killed instantaneously.

 

 

 

 

The police with the help of locals extricated the bodies from the ill-fated car using a JCB. The traffic on the busy Anantapur-Kadapa highway came to a halt due to the accident and hundreds of vehicles were stranded on either side of the road for several kilometres. The police regulated the traffic with great difficulty.

 

The accident occurred after the tyre of the car burst while it was going at high speed to overtake a bus, police said. The police registered a case and shifted the bodies to the GGH for postmortem.

 

 

 

 

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the ghastly road accident and the death of six ISKCON members.  He inquired with the district officials about the accident and assured them of extending all support to the bereaved families.  Home Minister V Anitha also expressed grief over the death of six ISKCON members and promised to help the bereaved family members.
