NEW DELHI, Oct 26: MLA Jasrota, Rajiv Jasrotia today called on Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to express gratitude to him as newly sanctioned Homeopathy College in Kathua has officially received approval to launch its first academic session, representing a significant step forward in healthcare and educational development for Jammu and Kashmir.
Jasrotia also urged Dr Jitendra Singh to soon start NHAI Project from Kathua’s Rajbagh to Doda under Bharat Mala Project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Lakhanpur-Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah-Doda National Highway has been finalized, revealing that the new route will reduce the travel distance by more than 100 kilometers.
Currently, the journey from Lakhanpur to Doda via NH44 spans approximately 260 kilometers. The new highway will cut this distance to about 140 kilometers, significantly easing travel and enhancing accessibility.
Among the notable features is the proposed Balasundari Tunnel, which will streamline the route from Rajbagh through the hills of Mata Balasundari in Billawar, reducing the distance between Sheetalnagar in Basohli and Bani. Additionally, the 6.8-km Chattergala tunnel will connect the erstwhile Doda region to Kathua, bypassing the Chattergala top.
Jasrotia, emphasized the project’s economic and social benefits. “Once completed, the highway will not only cut travel time but also boost trade, create employment, and generate revenue for the locals,” he said.
The Lakhanpur-Doda highway is set to be a game-changer for the region, fostering tourism, enhancing security, and contributing to the overall progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jasrotia said that Kathua was fortunate to have been developed by Modi and blessed by Dr Jitendra Singh. He said Kathua has emerged among the country’s most developed Lok Sabha constituencies. It is possibly the only constituency that has three medical colleges, the highest railway bridge in the world, the longest road tunnel in Asia, the first river rejuvenation in North India, namely the River Devika cleaning project, the first Homeopathy College of North India, the first Biotech Park of North India, several national highways, and several national hydroelectric projects, besides getting two Vande Bharat trains and numerous other benefits, he added.
