3 youth killed in road accident at Nagrota

JAMMU, Oct 27: A pall of gloom descended on three families in Janipur area of Jammu district after three young men, including two cousins, died in a road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Nagrota area, today.

The victims, aged 20 to 22, were identified as Sumit Balgotra, son of Raj Kumar; Gaurav Balgotra, son of Narinder Balgotra; and Ram Mehra, son of Shiv Mehra, all residents of Indra Colony, Daily Excelsior Lane, Janipur, Jammu.
The deceased youth were reportedly on their way back to Jammu from Kattal Battal, Nagrota, where they had visited the sister of one of the deceased individual, Sumit Balgotra.
A police official said their two-wheeler (JK02DL-1797) was struck by an oil tanker (JK02CR-7794) near Panjgrain area on the National Highway around 4:45 pm, resulting in their death on-the-spot.
Upon receiving the information, he said, a police team from Nagrota Police Station arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies to the mortuary at Government Medical College Jammu, where post-mortems will be conducted by a team of doctors tomorrow.
Family members of the deceased youth told the Excelsior that Sumit was the only brother to five sisters and worked as a pizza delivery boy. According to them, Gaurav was employed at a goldsmith’s shop, while Ram Mehra was unemployed.
The tanker driver, who has been arrested, reportedly informed police that none of the deceased youths were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The police have taken cognisance of the matter by registering a case FIR number 284/2024 under Sections 106 and 281 of the BNS at Nagrota Police Station.
Meanwhile, further investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Pertinently, this was the second major accident in the Nagrota area this week as two NEET aspirants lost their lives earlier after their bike was struck by a truck on Tawi Bridge in Sidhra are on October 22.
