SRINAGAR, Oct 27: Samooh Theatre, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), organized the Kashmir Theatre Seminar on the topic “Kashmir Theatre – Present Scenario, Challenges, and Prospects” at the seminar hall, Cultural Academy Complex, here today.
Suresh Gupta, Principal Secretary of the Department of Culture, graced the event as the chief guest. In his address, Gupta complimented all the felicitated theatre practitioners of Kashmir, encouraging them to continue innovating and experimenting to make theatre more vibrant and popular among the masses.
Gupta stated that the experts in attendance would collectively share their experiences, knowledge, and expert suggestions, which would be considered for the betterment and development of theatre art in Jammu and Kashmir.
Harvinder Kour, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, attended the event as the guest of honour while Bollywood actor Mir Sarwar was a special guest.
Mushtaque Ali Ahmed Khan, a prominent theatre and television actor/director, delivered the keynote address, offering a comprehensive historical and contemporary view of theatre in Kashmir.
Ameen Bhat and Rishi Rasheed presented papers, while Ayash Arif also spoke, sharing insights on the current theatre scenario in Kashmir.
Noted theatre directors from Kashmir, including Ameen Bhat, Ayash Arif, Mushtaq Ali Ahmed Khan, Arshad Mushtaq, Manzoor Mir, and Rishi Rasheed, were honoured on the occasion for their longstanding contributions to theatre both in Kashmir and nationally.
Earlier, Dr Sudhir Mahajan, founder of Samooh Theatre, delivered a welcome address, detailing the seminar’s objectives and sharing Samooh Theatre’s upcoming activities. The program proceedings were conducted by Shahnawaz, a theatre actor and scholar from Kashmir.
The seminar was attended by prominent theatre directors, actors, playwrights, and other notable figures. Among the attendees were Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary of JKAACL and Assudulla Wani, Cultural Officer of JKAACL.
Anita Chandpuri, general secretary of Samooh Theatre, presented the vote of thanks.
