KATHUA, Oct 30: In its commitment to combat cyber crime District Cyber Cell, Kathua under overall supervision of SSP Kathua, Shobit Saksena has recovered defrauded amount of Rs 96,000.
Police said that on October 9 an offline complaint was lodged in Cyber Cell Kathua in which a complainant namely Abhishek Sharma, son of Bodh Raj of Gurha Mundian, tehsil Hirangar, Kathua reported that unknown fraudster impersonating himself as his relative called him and asked him to transfer an amount of Rs 96,000/- and he transferred the amount to fraudster’s account. When the complainant learnt that the person was not his relative and he had been defrauded, he rushed to Cyber Cell Kathua and registered a complaint, police added.
Police said during the investigation, the Cyber Cell Kathua team acted swiftly and exhibited hectic efforts and freezed the fraudster’s account in which the amount was transferred. Today on 30/10/2024, the defrauded amount of Rs 96,000 has been recovered and credited back to the account of victim on the implementation of Court Order while further investigation in the case is in progress.
Police said from the date of establishment, Cyber Cell Kathua has successfully recovered defrauded amount of Rs 34,10,895/- so far, this achievement of District Police Kathua underscores the unit’s expertise dedication and tireless efforts in safeguarding the common citizens against online fraud and cheating.
District Police Kathua has reiterated its appeal to the general public to remain extra vigilant and report promptly to Cyber Cell Kathua or the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 or visit www.cybercrime.gov.in if any suspicious call or online cheating is noticed.
