Valley minorities skip voting

Sizeable Sikh minority in some localities of Srinagar like Aluchibag kept away from voting on April 30. They expressed their unhappiness over the failure of the State Government in alleviating their grievances and difficulties despite repeated requests in the past. They categorically said that their abstention was just to remind the politicians that they cannot be taken for granted and their sentiments have to be respected. Their grievances are mostly that the Sikh youth are not provided opportunities of employment, self- employment and numerous other facilities which others get. This has worsened their economic conditions and they feel a lost tribe.
Though the number of voters of Hindu minority community was very small, even then they, too, did not come out to cast their vote. They also alleged that they were not being given fair treatment and their abstention from the voting was something like protest as they remain a neglected community. Strangely no political leader approached them in their temporary habitats at Lalgam and Sheikhpora.  This factual story of the minorities in Kashmir repudiates the tall claims of political leadership in the Valley that just and equitable treatment is being meted out to the minorities of the Valley.
