Doda-Batote highway closed due to landslide, people protest

DODA, May 2: The 47 kilometer long Doda-Batote highway remained closed due to landslide at Dhansal near Assar. However, the people stranded at various areas of the 47-kilometer long stretch held protest demanding immediate restoration of the road.
The highway was closed for vehicular movement following major landslide today early morning.
The men and machinery of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are clearing the heavy boulders but the traffic movement was not restored on the highway till last report came.
Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger vehicles, ambulances and marriage parties were stranded.
The sudden closure of the road forced thousands of passengers to halt at several places on the highway from Batote to Doda.
The stranded passengers also held a protest demonstration demanding immediate restoration of the road.
An official of BRO said that men and machinery are at job and the road will be restored by tomorrow.
