* Rs 1.50 cr penalty realized till Oct

UDHAMPUR, Nov 2. Additional Commissioner State Taxes Department (STD) Jammu, Namrita Dogra today took a review of activities of the Enforcement wing and Circle staff in Udhampur.
At the outset, Deputy Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement Udhampur, Anil Kumar Chandail briefed the meeting about the enforcement activities being carried out in 5 districts of Jammu North. He informed Additional Commissioner that Rs 1.50 crore penalty was realized till October 2024 marking an increase of about 26%. Similarly, the department verified 1.80 lakh EW Bills with an increase of about 26% due to which very high compliance on part of the taxpayers/transporters has been observed.
Namrita Dogra appreciated the efforts of the enforcement team in breaking the nexus of the scrap dealers, which was a great challenge before the department.
Stressing the need to stepping up night surveillance, the Addl Commissioner asked the team to keep close check on tax evasion on sensitive commodities like Tobacco products, scrap goods, cement, TMT Bars, Electrical goods, etc.
It was informed that the penalties realised during the period were imposed for violations like movement of major commodities like marble/granite, scrap goods, furniture products, tobacco products and multiple goodson without e-way Bills,e-invoices, wrong declaration of tax rate, mismatch in quantity, use of fake GSTIN, etc.
The enhanced surveillance was possible with extensive usage of analytical tools and development of a wide information network by the team Udhampur”, the meeting was told.
Officers/officials present in the meeting included Babu Pardeep Kumar STO, Ravi Verma STO, Inspectors: Rajesh Verma, Meeta Gupta, Mohit Jamwal and Sub inspectors/Ministerial Staff.
