Akshaya Tritiya celebrated

JAMMU, May 2: Akshaya Tritiya was celebrated in the winter capital with religious fervour.
A number of jewellery shops in the city not only remained open throughout the day, but most of them also witnessed brisk purchase of gold and diamond ornaments.
Heavy rush was witnessed in the jewellery shops as the jewellers were seen offering discounts on the yellow metal and diamond jewellery to tap the buying rush.
The devotees including women offered puja and prayers at various temples to mark the occasion.
Most parts of the city also witnessed a number of marriage ceremonies. However, so many wedding ceremonies also caused traffic snarls at some prominent crossings even during daytime.
Meanwhile, the showrooms dealing in sale of cars also witnessed heavy rush as people were seen purchasing cars. The booking of cars on this day also witnessed a rise.
Besides this, bhandaras were also organised at various places.
This day is considered to be auspicious according to Hindu calendar for gems and jewellery buying and it is also the birthday of Parshurama (an incarnation of Vishnu) and marks the beginning of the Golden Age.
