JAMMU, May 2: Police today arrested the truck driver for crushing a newly married lady to death yesterday near Nai Basti area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar police station.
As per police sources, a newly married woman namely Monika Manhas, wife of Raman Singh, a resident of Lakkar Mandi, Janipur was riding on a motorcycle bearing registration number JKO2AB-7075 along with her husband, when a speedy truck bearing registration number JKO2R-3887 hit the motorcycle at Nai Basti, resulting into on the spot death of the lady.
The body of the deceased was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after conducting autopsy, the same was handed over to family members for last rites.
On specific inputs, police team from Gandhi Nagar police station headed by SDPO Harjeet Singh arrested the accused driver, who has been identified as Rangeel Singh, son of Raj Singh of Mussa Chack, RS Pura.
A case in this regard stands registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and further investigation into the case is going on.
