KARGIL, Nov 3: Government Degree College (GDC) Drass conducted an educational geological field tour to Sonamarg and its surrounding areas.
The tour was organized under the expert guidance of Dr Shoib Maqbool from the Department of Geology and supervised by the College Principal, Dr Amjad Ali Abassi. This hands-on field experience provided students with a unique opportunity to explore the geological diversity of the region and apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings.
During the tour, students visited various geological sites in Sonamarg, where Dr Maqbool led them through an insightful exploration of rock formations, mineralogy, and structural geology. Students gained a deeper understanding of Ladakh’s tectonic landscape, observing rock strata and mineral deposits that reveal the region’s ancient geological history.
Dr Maqbool’s expertise and engaging explanations enriched the students’ understanding of complex geological processes, while Dr Abassi’s supervision ensured a well-coordinated, safe, and productive learning experience.
Dr Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal GDC Drass, emphasized the College’s commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities to enhance students’ educational journey. “Field studies like these are crucial for our students to gain practical knowledge and foster a lasting interest in earth sciences,” he said.
The tour concluded with an interactive session, where students asked questions and shared reflections on the field observations, reinforcing their interest in pursuing further studies in geology.
