JAMMU, Nov 4: Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh (ABSMS) has raised the demand of regularisation of Safai Karamcharis working as daily wagers in JMC, SMC and other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of J&K for the last more than seven years.
Raising more demands while addressing a press conference in this regard here today, Hardev Singh, national member of ABSMS said the Safai Karamcharis should be taken out of the outsourcing system to stop their exploitation.
He said that the old pension scheme should be implemented to provide financial security to Safai Karamcharis and the authorities concerned should address the long pending SRO-43 cases to bring justice to the affected Safai Karamcharis.
Raising more demands Hardev Singh said that the authorities concerned should also release the pending arrears of Safai Karamcharis working with JMC and were regularised in the years 2005, 2008 and 2010.
He also demanded implementation of Minimum Wages Act for all casual Safai Karamcharis, consolidated helpers and other workers in SMC, JMC and other ULBs so that they may get a minimum of Rs. 18000 per month.
Singh said that as there is already a shortage of Safai Karamcharis in Jammu ULB, so those working from 2015 and onwards should be given one more chance before removing them from their jobs.
The ABSMS leader said that they will wait for the next 30 days and till then if their demands are not met then they would go for an indefinite strike.
“We will also take our demands to National Commission for Safai Karamcharis and to Union Minister, Arjun Meghwal,” he maintained.
