JAMMU, Nov 5: Member of Parliament (MP), Haji Mohmad Hanifa, visited the Kargil campus of the University of Ladakh and addressed key infrastructural needs of the University.
On reaching the University campus, the MP was received by Dr Mehboob Ali, Incharge Administration, Dr Jaffar Ali Khan, Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, and various departmental coordinators. Dr Mehboob Ali briefed the MP on the pressing infrastructural challenges, especially within the Humanities and Natural Sciences Block. Due to delays in facility completions, the University has been forced to conduct classes in temporary arrangements.
Following the tour, an interactive session was held with campus officials, during which Dr Mohd Taqi, Coordinator of the Department of Geography presented formal welcome to the MP and the University Registrar, Nawang Tundup.
As a mark of Ladakhi hospitality, Haji Mohmad Hanifa was presented with a khatak by Nawang Tundup and Dr Mehboob Ali, symbolizing respect, while Dr Jaffar Ali Khan extended a similar welcome to the Registrar. Dr Mehboob Ali then gave a detailed presentation covering the campus’s vision, academic programs, and research initiatives, emphasizing ongoing infrastructural issues that hinder daily operations.
In a memorandum submitted to the MP, Dr Mehboob Ali outlined key demands, including the construction of a conference hall, provision of an electric bus, an ambulance, and a battery bank to improve solar power backup. The Registrar, Nawang Tundup, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to facility advancements across both Kargil and Leh campuses and expressed hope for permanent staffing to ensure educational continuity.
In response, Haji Mohmad Hanifa announced the approval of an ambulance for the Kargil campus. He assured the University community of his commitment to raising additional requests with relevant ministries to expedite solutions.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Mohd Taqi. Haji Mohmad Hanifa reaffirmed his dedication to supporting educational growth in Ladakh, particularly by addressing urgent infrastructural needs.
