RAJOURI, Nov 6: One person was killed while another injured in a road accident in Rajouri district today.
Official sources said that a Poonch resident died in a road accident on Wednesday in Rajori’s Chingus area on the Rajori-Jammu highway, while another youth was seriously injured.
It said that two youth from Nuna Bandi area of Poonch were coming from Jammu to Poonch on their bike number JK12B-7371. The road widening work is being initiated in Chingus area on the highway and a new bridge is also being constructed there.
Sources said that there is a place between the new bridge and the old bridge where the construction company’s tippers go down into the ditch and fill debris/stones etc. and use it in construction. The youths coming on a bike from Jammu took the bike on the road between the new bridge and the old bridge where only heavy vehicles like tippers etc. go and there the bike met with a road accident and fell into the gorge.
24-year-old Abdullah Rehman, resident of Poonch died after falling on the stones lying there while the other 23-year-old Mohammad Ramzan, son of Abdul Karim resident of Poonch was seriously injured. The local people shifted both of them to GMC Rajouri where the doctor declared one youth Abdullah Rehman brought dead while the treatment of the other is going on but his condition remains critical. The police took cognizance of the matter and after conducting the post-mortem of the body and completing other legal formalities, handed over the body to the family. The family and locals alleged that the accident happened due to alleged negligence of BRO.
They said the road between the new bridge and the old bridge, where the heavy tippers are working at the construction site, does not have any sign board on it which would indicate that it is not safe to travel on that road. If a sign board had been installed, this fatal road accident would not have happened, they added.
