SRINAGAR, Nov 6: After not being included in the list of 57 former members for the obituary references on day two of the ongoing Assembly session yesterday, rich tribute were paid today to former MLA of Kulgam, Mohammad Yaqoob Bhat.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather led the house in offering homage to the late Bhat, who served between 1962 and 1967. All the legislators observed a one-minute silence as a token of respect for the departed soul.
Remembering the former MLA, the Speaker said that Bhat worked earnestly for the growth and development of Kulgam, particularly focusing on the welfare of the downtrodden in the area.
Addressing the House, the Speaker explained, “We received a query from his relatives about why his name was excluded. I looked into it to understand the reason.”
He stated that the Assembly Secretariat had sought information from all Deputy Commissioners about individuals who had passed away during this period.
“The DC of Kulgam informed that no legislator had died during this period in the district, which meant we did not receive any information from there,” the Speaker said.
“…In this regard, it is submitted that the information may kindly be treated as nil in respect of district Kulgam,” the Speaker quoted from the response of DC. He assured the house that the matter would be investigated further.
Notably, the J&K Legislative Assembly had already paid rich tribute to 57 prominent legislators yesterday who passed away since the last session in 2018.
