JAMMU, Nov 7: Police in Nagrota area have arrested one individual who had been running a job scam, duping numerous victims of lakhs of rupees by impersonating as an Army Major.
According to police, the accused, Harpreet Singh, who is originally from Akhnoor, and is currently staying at his in-laws’ residence in Miran Sahib area, allegedly promised job placements in exchange for hefty sums.
The police are now questioning him to recover the defrauded amounts and further unravel the full scope of the scam.
The police action followed a complaint from one person, who reported being tricked by the accused by using his fake military credentials to gain trust and deceive him into paying Rs 85 lakh for a job that never materialized.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and apprehended the man.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to his involvement, revealing that he impersonated a major to make his job offers appear legitimate.
Police are now focusing on tracing the stolen money, with the possibility of uncovering more victims.
