Srinagar, May 4: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti has said that National Conference has failed to take up real issues and people are instead making their decision in the election on its performance and its traditional role against the interests of Kashmir.
Addressing a number of public meetings in Tangmarg segment of Baramulla Parliamentary constituency she said the NC had tried to raise issues which had no relevance to the problems of Jammu & Kashmir but it has miserably failed on the ground to convince the people by its lies and concocted stories.
Mehbooba said NC had tried to mislead the people by its false propaganda against the PDP as it has nothing to show by way of performance to win over the electorate. She said the people know what their real issues are and they can’t be deceived anymore by the murky politics which the NC leadership has been playing in Kashmir from many decades now. She said now mind of people has changed and the PDP has become their first choice.
She said everyone knows it is the NC which had truck with the BJP in 1996 only to get junior ministry job for Omar Abdullah. And without any positive issues in their hands the NC leadership went all guns blazing against the PDP predicting its future course of action but everything went against them as the people have clearly rejected them both in South and Central Kashmir.
She said, “In 1996 it was Dr Farooq Abdullah who went on for an alliance with the BJP for just getting his son a junior minister’s job. During that period the Abdullahs handed over seven feasible power projects to the NHPC without getting anything substantial for the State. They started the STF, Ikhwan and got POTA into the State. Blanket ban on Government jobs, Shahtoos was enforced. Opening and up-gradation of new schools were also banned.”
After feeling rejected, Mehbooba said, now the ruling coalition partners have started a blame game about which party voted for the PDP in Anantanag and Srinagar Parliamentary constituencies. She said both the NC and Congress had got a chance to make a difference in the lives of common people and in the overall situation in the State, but they have failed in utilizing it effectively. Mehbooba said instead of providing an honest, effective and accountable administration Omar Abdullah has been responding arrogantly and his only achievement has been his war with every section of the society over the last more than five years.
