SRINAGAR, Nov 11: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today wrote to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, urging the formation of a committee to review the cases of terminated government employees in the Union Territory.
In her letter, Mufti highlighted the plight of families affected by what she describes as arbitrary dismissals from Government service on flimsy grounds, without thorough investigation or fair trials, especially post-2019. She shared the letter on her official X handle, emphasizing the severe impact these dismissals have had on families.

“The abrupt dismissal of Government employees without due process, a pattern that started since 2019, has left many families devastated and, in some cases, destitute,” Mufti wrote, calling for a committee to reassess such cases.
She proposed that the committee should conduct fair and thorough reviews, allowing affected employees or their families to present their side of the story and address the financial needs of these families.
Citing an example, Mufti mentioned Nazir Ahmad Wani, a Tehsildar from Bellow, Pulwama, who faced dismissal under Article 311 and was imprisoned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for several years before being acquitted of all charges. She noted that his ordeal resulted in serious health complications, leading to his death from cardiac arrest on October 27, 2024. His wife and five children now face bureaucratic challenges in securing his pension and entitlements.
“The dismissal of individuals like Wani, without formal inquiry or a chance for defence, affects not only the individuals but also strains their families and creates an atmosphere of uncertainty for all Government employees in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing these injustices is urgent,” Mufti stated. She urged Abdullah to take a humanitarian view to alleviate the suffering of these families.
Since 2019, dozens of Government employees in Jammu and Kashmir have been dismissed, reportedly for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities.
