Troops trap 2 militants in Sopore village

Srinagar, Nov 12: A woman, who was injured in a grenade attack at Tourist Reception Centre Srinagar earlier this month, succumbed to injuries today while security forces trapped two militants in a Sopore village in North Kashmir.
The grenade attack on November 3 at the Sunday market near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) here had left 12 persons injured.
The 45-year-old woman succumbed to injuries at the SMHS hospital this morning. She was identified as Abida, a resident of Naidkhai area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir.
Waseem Raja, brother of Abida was in complete shock when he arrived with the body of his sister in the village where hundreds of people had gathered to mourn her death. “She is a martyr. Her only fault was to go shopping. Are we Kashmiris not allowed to go shopping. I want justice for my sister and her family,” he shouted.

Raja expressed concerns about the safety in Kashmir, questioning why such attacks continue despite heavy security measures.
He urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to ensure formal rehabilitation for the children and take action to prevent further violence.
A group of women expressed that these killings must end as soon as possible. “What have the attackers achieved by doing this? These killings must stop to end this daily bloodshed,” they said.

The lady left behind three minor children, including two sons, Mohammad Hafi and Zuhair Zubair, and a daughter, Aubihiyah Zubair.
Zuhair, the ten-year-old elder son, said that his beloved mother was killed for no reason. “Our Mumma is no more with us,” he said. “She wanted to buy me a winter jacket and other winter stuff for my brother and sister.”
The deceased was laid to rest in Sumbal where hundreds of people attended her last rites, with women wailing in grief, their sobs and tears filling the air as they mourned the loss
Police have arrested three militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who were allegedly involved in the grenade attack.
Meanwhile, security forces today cordoned off Behrampora area of Sopore in Baramulla district.
“Joint security forces, including the Sopore Police, 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and 179 CRPF, have launched a counter-insurgency operation in the Behrampora area of Sopore, North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Two militants are reportedly trapped inside a house in the locality. The area has been cordoned off,” an official said.
In the meantime, a massive operation was launched in Bandipora forest area after militants fled after a brief shoot out with the security forces early today.
“Based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation (was) launched by Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police in general area Nagmarg, in Bandipora,” Chinar Corps, Indian Army said in a post on X, adding, “Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Our troops effectively retaliated.”
More troops were rushed to the forest area and a massive search was launched to trace out the militant group.
