EPG calls for release of activist

Srinagar, Nov 12: The Environmental Policy Group (EPG) today called for the release of environmental activist Rehamatullah from Doda.
In a statement issued by EPG Convenor Faiz Ahmad Bakshi, the group expressed concern over Rehamatullah’s detention, describing it as a worrying development that “threatens environmental advocacy.”
EPG noted that the action appears to be a response to the activist’s recent criticism of the local administration, specifically following his November 6 interview, in which he highlighted inadequate solid waste management in Doda town.
“Environmental activism and constructive criticism are not just rights but necessities in any democratic society,” the EPG stated.
“Using preventive detention laws to silence environmental advocates sets a dangerous precedent and must be immediately addressed.”
The group called for Rehamatullah’s release, emphasizing that environmental concerns should be addressed through dialogue, not detention.
