JAMMU, Nov 13: The Joint Action Committee of Reserved Categories, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Reserved Categories Empowerment Alliance (JKRCEA), has wholeheartedly supported the resolution of the Government guaranteeing restoration of Statehood and Constitutional guarantees.
The resolution, they said, would benefit all regions, religions, castes, and genders of Jammu & Kashmir, which was downgraded to a Union Territory in 2019.
The speakers strongly criticized PDP MLA Waheed Parra for making anti-reserved category remarks, calling his statements unconstitutional and reflecting a lack of understanding.
They warned him against repeating such narratives, threatening to launch a mass campaign if necessary.
The leaders also urged Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to direct their MPs and MLAs to avoid comments that harm the sentiments of SC, ST, OBCs, and minorities in J&K. Click here to watch video
Prof GL Thapa, Working President of JKRCEA, stated that the resolution moved by the new Government was inline with the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders during the election campaign.
He criticized the BJP’s refusal to engage in meaningful debate and highlighted the party’s failure to fulfil promises related to SC, ST, and OBC rights, including reservations in promotions, direct recruitment, and land ownership.
Mohinder Bhagat, Working General Secretary, emphasized the BJP’s “disregard” for the Constitutional rights of J&K’s reserved categories. Sham Bassan, President of Dalit Chetna Munch, pointed out the negative impact of the abrogation of Article 370 on SC, ST, OBCs, and minorities in the region.
The press conference concluded with demands for a clear stance from the J&K National Conference leadership on issues of reservation, land rights, and the implementation of the Mandal Commission Report.
Among those who attended the press conference included RA Inklabi, Mohammad Latif Qureshi, Lakhbir Singh, Prof Kali Dass, Bodh Raj Bhagat, Joginder Paul, KK Bhagat, FC Satia, Balwant Kataria, and others.
