‘NEP has given roadmap of disciplinary education’

Srinagar, Nov 13: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha today said that Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora has emerged as the centre of skill learning and quality education.
Addressing a gathering at IUST on the Foundation Week Celebration, Sinha said that in the past 3-4 years, the varsity has emerged as the centre of excellence.

“In last three-four years, IUST has emerged as a centre of learning in quality education and has played an important role in skill human resource generation. I believe that IUST is being talked about and appreciated across the world for its tremendous work in innovative ideas,” Sinha said.
The Lt Governor said that if he is told what is new in Kashmir with regard to the education sector, “I would say that there is a new skill and innovation University namely IUST.”
Sinha also added that the efforts of students as well as faculty of IUST are worth appreciating. “Under the NEP in the last three years, IUST has done a commendable job by stressing on the science, technology, humanities and social sciences and I believe that the approach will create a holistic mindset among the students,” he said.
He also added that the New Education Policy has given a roadmap and vision of disciplinary and multidisciplinary education. “I am sure that every student of IUST is talented and will bring a positive change in J&K besides participate in the development of the region,” he added
He highlighted that the innovative initiatives of IUST are in sync with the NEP 2020 vision to make higher education institutions future ready by providing multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary education. Click here to watch video
IUST’s efforts in the field of innovation, startups and entrepreneurship is being lauded across the country and it has achieved prestigious 4-star ranking by Union Ministry of Education, he added.
The LG called upon the youth to explore cutting-edge, transformative technologies and harness the power of innovation to benefit society, empower marginalised communities, promote inclusive and equitable growth for a brighter future.
He further impressed on the teaching community and educational institutions to nurture and promote creativity, innovation, new technology, entrepreneurship, with focus on capacity building, skill development and lifelong learning to empower the youth and make them key partners in a nation’s socio-economic development.
The Lt Governor also underscored the importance of skill census which will help in identifying areas for improvement and creating better employment opportunities.
He also felicitated teachers and meritorious students, and released several publications including Design Your Degree Programme (DYDP): concept progress and institutionalisation, and J&K and Ladakh Research Consortium ByLaws.
Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST, presented the University report and highlighted the achievements of the University.
Series of programmes like Academic-Industry Conclave, Tech-Exhibition, Lit-Fest, and other activities, dedicated to youth empowerment, were organised as a part of Foundation Day celebrations.
Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Mobin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar; Prof. Mohd Ashraf Ganie, Director, SKIMS; Prof Abdul Wahid Makhdoomi, Registrar IUST, senior officials, heads of various educational institutions, faculty members and students were present.
