Srinagar, Nov 13: Several gunshots were heard during a cordon and search operation (CASO) by security forces in Kulgam district today.
The operation is going on in the Badimarg area of Kulgam to trace the militants who are believed to be hiding in the area. The operation was launched following an input about militant presence in the area.

An official said that the gunshots were heard during the operation. He added that the search operation is still going on.
There has been an uptick in encounters between militants and security forces in Kashmir this month. Eight militants have been shot dead in eight encounters this month. Most of the encounters have taken place in north Kashmir. Click here to watch video
On Tuesday morning, militants and security forces exchanged fire at Nagmarg forest area in Bandipora district. However, after the initial gunbattle, there was no fresh contact with militants. The massive combing operation in the area continued today.
