SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Over a dozen structures were damaged today in a blaze that raged through the Abi Gurpora Rainawari area of Srinagar.
Officials said the incident was reported at 4:30 PM, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Department.
While cooling operations are still ongoing, locals alleged that the efforts were significantly delayed due to narrow roads and illegal roadside parking.
Officials confirmed that fire tenders were dispatched immediately but noted the delays caused by these obstacles, which hindered the movement of emergency vehicles.
While the cause of the fire is under investigation, no casualties have been reported so far. However, several families have been left homeless.
MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, visited Abi Gurpora and assured the victims of all possible support.
Meanwhile, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, a team from the District Administration Srinagar visited the Gurupora Rainawari area in the evening to provide immediate assistance to the fire-affected families.
Immediate relief, including blankets, mattresses, and kitchen sets, was provided to the affected families, along with Rs 20,000 to each family as interim relief from the District Red Cross Fund.
The Deputy Commissioner has also directed the concerned authorities to assess the losses and compile a comprehensive report for providing structure-wise financial assistance under the SDRF to the affected families.
