JAMMU, Nov 20: The District Administration has imposed a 15-day ban on the movement of heavy vehicles from Ware House towards Canal Head in Bhagwati Nagar to facilitate the ongoing construction work for the Jammu-Akhnoor road widening project.
However, two-wheelers will continue to ply unhindered on this stretch.
The road widening project, being executed in four phases, involves the construction of a 0.8-kilometer stretch from Bhagwati Nagar Chowk to Canal Head in the package 1. The project is being carried out by the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) at an estimated cost of Rs 1345 crore.
Initially, NHIDCL had requested the District Administration to restrict traffic on this stretch for construction work. However, the administration deferred the ban due to the Jhiri Mela. With the mela now going to conclude, the restriction has been enforced to ensure smooth progress of the roadwork.
The ban on heavy vehicles will allow the construction team to work without disruptions, speeding up the project’s completion.
