SRINAGAR, Nov 20: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Summit 2024 concluded today with a call for collaborative efforts to build a resilient and sustainable tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) J&K Council, the event at Hotel Golden Tulip brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to address challenges and opportunities in the tourism sector.
On the occasion, advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, emphasized the need for responsible tourism practices to accommodate growing tourist inflows while ensuring sustainability. “The Government will take proactive steps toward making J&K a sustainable and responsible tourism destination,” he said.
Satish Sharma, J&K Minister for Transport and IT, highlighted the upcoming train inauguration in January, which is expected to boost tourism significantly. He also called for subsidies, tax benefits, and policy revisions to support the sector.
Speakers, including Farooq Ahmad Shah, underscored the balance between tourism growth and cultural preservation. Shah stressed regulating homestay policies and protecting artisans. Irfan Ali Shah proposed Ayush-based tourism, leveraging the region’s medicinal plant diversity to attract health-conscious travelers.
Syed Junaid Altaf, CII J&K Chairman, called for environmental preservation alongside economic growth. “Tourism must support local communities, conserve biodiversity, and embrace innovation for inclusive opportunities,” he said.
The summit featured key industry voices, including Rakesh Mathur of the Responsible Tourism Society of India and Abhijeet Patil of Raja Rani Travels, discussing responsible tourism and urban beautification.
Simultaneously, FIL Industries showcased its innovations at the 16th CII AgroTech India event, emphasizing sustainable agriculture practices and strategic industry-farmer partnerships. On the occasion, Syed Junaid Altaf highlighted the need for long-term collaboration to address climate challenges and boost agricultural productivity. “FIL Industries, a diversified enterprise, remains committed to sustainable solutions in agriculture, tourism, and beyond,” he said.
