KISHTWAR, Nov 21: Police here today has solved a blind murder case involving gruesome killing of a woman and her two children at Jisher Drabshalla.
Initially the case appeared as an accidental fire but investigations exposed it as a cold-blooded murder.
On November 11, 2024, Police at Kishtwar received information about devastating fire in the house of one Khursheed Ahmed in Jisher Drabshalla which claimed the lives of his first wife, Nazia Begum, 35 and their two children—Amina Bano, 10, and Rizan Ahmed, 5, who were burnt alive.
Upon receiving the report, an inquest under Section 194 BNSS was initiated at Police Post Drabshalla and the charred bodies were taken into custody for post-mortem. After completing all legal formalities, the remains were handed over to their legal heirs for last rites.
Realizing suspicious circumstances of the incident, SSP Kishtwar constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
The SIT was led by Inspector Firdous Ahmed (SHO Police Station Kishtwar), assisted by PSI Ankush Sharma (IC PP Drabshalla), under the supervision of Dy. SP Hqrs Kishtwar, Dr. Ishan Gupta.
During the enquiry, it emerged that Khursheed Ahmed had two wives—Nazia Begum (the deceased) and Asma Begum (the second wife). This led the investigation to a complex web of domestic disputes.
After sustained efforts, the SIT zeroed in on Asma Begum, who ultimately confessed to the crime in front of Executive Magistrate. She revealed that she had premeditatedly executed the murder due to ongoing personal disputes with Nazia.
After establishing the involvement of Asma in gruesome murder, the inquest proceeding was converted into FIR and investigation taken up.
The Police swiftly arrested Asma Begum.
