SRINAGAR, Nov 21: The administration today imposed a ban on illegal mining in and around all mining blocks, particularly in Rambiara Nallah, from sunset to sunrise in Shopian district.
An order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Salem Dar, stated that illegal mining activities have been taking place, particularly in Rambiara Nallah during the night, which is threatening the local ecosystem and community.
“These activities are in violation of environmental laws and regulations, causing significant harm to the local ecosystem and posing serious public safety risks. The continued illegal mining not only damages the environment but also adversely impacts the health and safety of the local community, disrupting the peace and tranquility of the area,” the order said.
The order further emphasized that, in order to curb illegal mining, restrictions are being imposed across all mineral blocks in Shopian.
The order also tasked senior officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police, the Additional District Magistrate, Executive Magistrates, and the District Mineral Officer, Shopian, with ensuring the strict implementation of the order.
However, no such order was issued by the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama where massive illegal mining has been going on for the last several years.
