*Lays foundation stone for development of playfields

JAMMU, Nov 23: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Science & Technology and Information Technology, Satish Sharma, today conducted an extensive tour of Chhamb constituency and adjoining areas.
The Minister laid foundation stone for construction of Synthetic Volleyball Court to be completed at an estimated cost of 25 lakh at Government High School Khui Millan, Block Samwan. He also laid foundation stone for development of playfield at an estimated cost of 1 crore rupees at Village, block Khour.
While inaugurating the development works, the Minister directed the officers to ensure timely completion of all these crucial works and cautioned them against any unnecessary delay in execution of the same.
Satish Sharma asked the officers of the line departments to put in their sincere efforts in rendering their services to the people.
Highlighting the broader benefits of sports, Satish Sharma exhorted that sports not only give opportunity to gain exposure and build discipline but also shape well-rounded individuals, keeping the youth engaged and diverting them from the negative effects of excessive mobile use and sedentary lifestyles. He stressed that sports also encourage youth to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle while contributing to the overall development of their personalities.
The Minister also interacted with local residents and enquired about their grievances/issues.
The local residents raised many issues pertaining to their respective areas including construction of link roads, streamlining of ration card issuance, irregular power and water supply, playgrounds besides related matters concerning welfare and development of their respective areas.
Meanwhile, Sharma paid surprise visit to Balgran Channi Rama and enquired about the facilities being provided to the children residing there.
The Minister inspected the facilities including food, cleanliness and hygiene, safe drinking water, sanitation. He also interacted with the children and staff asking them about the facilities being extended in the home.
Satish Sharma also visited ‘Muskan’, a Home for specially abled Persons which is located adjoining to Balgran. He interacted with the children and enquired about the facilities being provided to them and issue being faced by them, if any.
The Minister also distributed sports items and sweets among the children and assured the staff his full support in providing all possible assistance and addressing any kind of issues.
