Srinagar, Nov 25: All J&K Commercial Drivers Association today urged authorities to issue formal directives regarding the operation of private vehicles under cab aggregators across Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference, members of the association called for swift action, alleging that the aggregators are preventing their vehicles from operating while favouring private cabs instead.

Sameer Bilal Bhat, a member of the association, said that private aggregators obtained necessary registrations from authorities with their support. He added that facilitating private cabs is unjust and goes against established norms.
“We are not against the aggregators, nor are we against private cab operators. We understand the issue of unemployment, but all we want is clarity on whether there is a provision for them to operate. The RTO must issue the necessary orders,” he said.
Bhat further stated that while commercial cabs are operating legally, commercial drivers are protesting against the authorities’ inaction in allowing private cabs to operate without proper directives.
“We are operating legally, but private cabs are openly plying without following procedures or receiving any orders from the authorities. If there is a provision for this, it must be made clear. We have invested heavily compared to private cabs,” he said.
He alleged that the aggregators’ facilitated entry of private cabs has severely impacted their livelihood, stressing that commercial vehicle operators are struggling to sustain themselves under increasing financial strain.
The commercial drivers also pointed out that the RTO had previously taken action against private cabs operating without proper licenses.
“Aggregators were informed that they were functioning without licenses. While they obtained licenses with our support, they are now allowing private cabs to operate. This must be addressed,” they said.
They emphasized the need to follow proper procedures for permitting such operations. “Private cabs should only be allowed to operate after the necessary orders are issued. Authorities must intervene and take appropriate measures,” they said.
