JAMMU, Dec 1: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra has called on block presidents of the party to bolster grassroots units to counter communal and divisive forces, aiming to uphold brotherhood and harmony in society.
Addressing a meeting at the PCC headquarters with block presidents from Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri, and Poonch districts, Karra emphasized the pivotal role of block presidents as the party’s frontline functionaries and messengers of the high command.
“Block presidents are crucial in strengthening the Congress party at the booth and Halqa Panchayat levels,” Karra said. He urged them to convey the party’s policies and programs effectively to grassroots levels and remain vigilant against threats to secular values and the Constitution.
Expressing concern over rising communal tensions across the country, Karra underscored the need to preserve the principles of unity in diversity established by India’s forefathers. He warned that divisive rhetoric and actions undermine the nation’s unity and strength.
“The Congress party must act as a unifying force, bridging communities beyond caste, creed, color, religion or region. Our mission is to uphold the nation’s foundational values and foster harmony,” Karra asserted.
During the five-hour meeting, Karra conducted a comprehensive review of the organizational structure at the grassroots and strategized measures to prepare for upcoming elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). Discussions focused on addressing shortcomings and strengthening basic party units.
The meeting was attended by several prominent leaders, including Javed Ahmed Wani, Vijay Hiteshi, Jafer Ahmed Bhat, and others. Karra concluded by urging all attendees to work collectively in promoting the Congress party’s vision of unity and inclusivity.
