Stolen gold, silver ornaments worth Rs 30 lakhs recovered

JAMMU, Dec 6: Police in Jammu’s Bishnah area claimed to have solved multiple theft cases by recovering stolen ornaments worth Rs 30 lakhs and arresting three individuals.
A police official said that on November 16, 2024, one Bindu Rani, wife of Rash Paul Dingra of Bhandrali, Bishnah, filed a written complaint with Police Station Bishnah, stating therein that some burglars broke into her house while she was attending a religious gathering and decamped with golden ornaments and other items, including Mangal Sutar, bangles, chains, etc.

On receiving the complaint, he said, a case FIR number 192/2024 under sections 331(3)/305-A of the BNS was registered at Police Station Bishnah, and further investigation was taken up.
Accordingly, he said, a team headed by SHO Bishnah, Inspector Sushil Choudhary, under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura, Nikhil Gogna, and SP Headquarters Jammu, IH Rather, identified and arrested one suspect for questioning.
He said, during sustained questioning, the suspected individual, identified as Rohit Chouhan alias Labhu of Hari Chak, Kathua, disclosed that he was running a burglars’ gang in Bishnah and its adjacent areas.
He further disclosed the names of two of his associates, identified as Sahil Kumar and Vishal Kumar, both residents of Hari Chak, Kathua, who were also arrested, said the police official.
Upon sustained questioning, the police official said that the accused confessed to their involvement in the theft case registered at Police Station Bishnah and several other theft cases registered in Bishnah and Miran Sahib Areas.
On the disclosure of all the accused, the stolen gold in the instant case and other stolen items, including gold, silver and other items worth Rs 30 lakhs, were recovered by the police, he said.
Police also recovered from the accused six bovines in a different case registered under FIR number 204/2024 under section 305 of the BNS registered at Police Station Bishnah, added the police official.
Police have started further investigation into the matter.
