Condolences on SDR’s demise continue to pour in on 3rd day

JAMMU, July 7: The condolence messages on sad and untimely demise of Editor -in -Chief, Printer and Publisher of Daily Excelsior, S D Rohmetra continue to pour on third day today. Social, political organizations and trade unions across the State held condolence meetings to mourn the demise of the veteran journalist and highlighted his contributions to the world of journalism.
Thousands of condolence messages received by Excelsior from across the globe bears testimony to the fact that Mr Rohmetra’s contribution to the field of journalism was worldly acclaimed.
Bhawani Kaul from Canada has expressed his profound shock and grief over the sad demise of Mr Rohmetra. In his condolence message Mr Kaul said that SDR’s demise is not only a loss for his family but an irreparable loss to millions of admirers of Mr Rohmetra in India and around the globe.
Mr Kaul has prayed for the peace of departed soul and expressed his sympathies with bereaved family. He termed the demise of Mr Rohmetra a personnel loss to him .
Rich tributes were paid to Mr Rohmetra at a condolence meeting organised by NC here today under the chairmanship of its provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta. Paying glowing tributes to Mr Rohmetra the NC leader said that he was a leading light in journalism who represented the aspirations of the people of the State through Daily Excelsior for last six decades.
Sheikh Bashir provincial secretary, Laxmi Dutta, Women Wing provincial president NC and others attended the meeting which prayed for the peace of departed soul and courage to bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
S S Sodhi, Director Delhi Public School, has also expressed his profound grief and shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra and has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
J&K Bank Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mushtaq Ahmad while condoling the demise of Mr Rohmetra has termed it a big loss. In his condolence message he said SDR’s contributions to the development of English journalism in the State will always be remembered. He also conveyed his sympathies to bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation (KHAROF) also condoled the demise of Mr Rohmetra. The office bearers of the organization in a condolence meeting prayed for the peace of departed soul and also expressed deep sympathies with bereaved family.
All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina has also expressed his grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. In his condolence message Mr Raina said that SDR’s death was a great loss to the State and his demise has created a void in the field of journalism.
Senior leader Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC-Qayoom) and general secretary of J&K ITI Employees Union, Mohammed Abass has also expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. In his condolence message Abass said the founder of Daily Excelsior was a true journalist who always believed in fair reporting and made this the main principle of his profession.
All Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Pensioners Welfare Association has expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. In his condolence message Ghulam Mohi-ud-Poshpori president of the Association said that the founder Editor of Daily Excelsior was a journalist of integrity who always stood for ethics and truth.
Kashmir News Network has also condoled the sad demise of S D Rohmetra. The KNN has expressed its condolence to the bereaved family, management and staff of Daily Excelsior. Mr Rohmetra’s demise has also been condoled by Valley Headlines Group.
All J&K Writers and Poets Association Poonch held a condolence meeting today under the chairmanship of Pardeep Khanna its president in which profound grief and shock was expressed over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. Congress State general secretary Ch. Zaffer Ulla Azad has also expressed his grief and shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra whom he knew from last many years.
He said Mr Rohmetra is credited with shaping up journalism as an institution in J&K.
PDP MLA Mendhar Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan has also condoled the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra and termed it a great loss for the State.
Nirankari spokesperson Mendhar, Surbi Sawhney while mourning the demise of SDR said with his death an era has ended.
Jammu Welfare Organization (JWO) in a condolence meeting here today under the chairmanship of Kasturi Lal Gupta its president expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran journalist Mr Rohmetra. It said his death has created a void in the field of journalism and public life.
Ashok Mahindru, Gopal Sharma, Yogeshwar Singh, Pawan Singh, Vijay Sharma, Chanda Uppal, Roshan Lal Bhat, Raj Kumar Bali, Om Chandel and J P Chadha attended the meeting which expressed deepest sympathy with bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of departed soul.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) National held a condolence meting at Nanak Nagar today in which profound grief and shock was expressed over the sad and sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra .
The meeting was chaired by Gurdev Singh working president. While highlighting the contributions of Mr Rohmetra in the field of journalism the meeting termed him a fearless and dynamic personality who groomed Excelsior by dint of his hard work and made it a leading news paper of the State.
JK Colony, Paloura Welfare Committee held a condolence meeting this evening under the chairmanship of Vijay Kumar Sharma in which profound grief and shock was expressed over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. The meeting observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to departed soul.
S Rajinder Singh convener All J&K Sikh Unity Forum has also condoled the untimely demise of Mr Rohmetra. Terming Mr Rohmetra a veteran journalist , Mr Singh lauded his contributions to the field of journalism.
The staff of J&K Bank Zonal Office Jammu West has also expressed its heartfelt condolences over the demise of Mr Rohmetra whom it termed a visionary and bold journalist.
Janata Dal (Secular) held a condolence meeting today under the chairmanship of Dhanraj Bargotra in which profound grief and sorrow was expressed over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. The meeting observed two minutes silence in the memory of departed soul.
All J&K Unemployed Engineers Association while mourning the demise of Mr Rohmetra termed it a big loss to the civil society of Jammu. The Association in its meeting at Udhampur under the chairmanship of Ajay Gupta paid rich tributes to the veteran journalist whom it described the voice of oppressed and suppressed people of the State.
Mahajan Sabha Trikuta Nagar Jammu held a condolence meeting today to mourn the sad and untimely demise of Mr Rohmetra a veteran journalist of the State. The meeting was chaired by Bal Krishan Gupta and it was attended by Tarsem Gupta, Narinder Kumar Gupta, B D Gupta. It highlighted the contributions of Mr Rohmetra to the field of journalism.
Sant Baba Swarnjit Singh has also expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra. In his condolence message he said SDR’s services to the society can never be forgotten.
Col (retd) J P Singh has expressed his profound grief and shock over the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra. Col Singh along with his other family members has expressed deepest sympathy with bereaved family and prayed for the peace of departed soul.
B L Saraf former District and Session Judge and a free lancer has expressed his profound shock and grief over the sudden demise of Mr Rohmetra. Mr Saraf termed SDR a doyen among the State journalists and father figure in the field of journalism. He served the profession of journalism with dedication and devotion for a period spanning more than five decades. He termed SDR’s demise a personnel loss.
Shakti Gupta chairman PPEU and Charanjit Singh a social activist have also mourned the sad demise of Mr Rohmetra.
Salim Geelani a Hurriyat leader while expressing his profound shock and grief over the demise of Mr Rohmetra highlighted his contributions to the field of journalism in the State. He said Mr Rohmetra maintained high standards of professionalism in the field of journalism.
AROHI Sangeet Vidyalaya members in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of R.K.Tickoo, condoled the sad demise of Mr Rohmetra, an iconic journalist and a dignified personality , expressed sympathy with the family members and staff of the news paper.A two minutes silence was observed to pay respects to the departed soul.Members present were. Majar Gen.(Rtd) BN Dhar ,KB Sharma ,HN Tiku, Dr Ashok Aima,Sat Metha, Roshen Bhan & Prof (Dr) Padmini Tickoo.

Dr K L Gupta of PGI Chandigarh has expressed his shock and grief over the sudden and sad demise of Mr Rohmetra. In his condolence message he said the Daily Excelsior, the pride of J&K is known for the impartial coverage of the news from theState and the nation.
He said with the demise of Mr Rohmetra, the State has lost the moving force of the daily. He expressed the hope that his successor would maintaining the high standards laid down by Mr Rohmetra.
Sangram Sena (SS) and Dogra Liberation Front (DLF) held a condolence meeting here today to mourn the demise of Mr Rohmetra. The meeting observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul. Among others the meeting was attended by SS chief, Ram Rattan Raina and DLF president, Ram Paul.
The Homeopathic Association in a meeting under the chairmanship of Ram Paul and Hindu Raksha Samiti under the leadership of Ramesh Arora expressed profound grief and shock over the demise of Mr Rohmetra.
Thakur Jugal Bhandari State secretary, PCC Kishtwar has also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Mr Rohmetra.
