Srinagar, Dec 14: Families of Special Police Officers (SPOs) today staged a protest, demanding their regularization for better financial security.
Several families assembled in Pratap Park and held a silent protest, carrying placards with slogans like “Regularize SPOs” and “We need justice.”
They appealed for intervention from higher authorities to address their grievances.
Zeenat, a resident of Srinagar and wife of one of the SPOs, said that the files for regularization have been gathering dust for several years.
She explained the difficulties her family has been suffering through.
“My husband is an SPO. These files must be sped up and regularized, especially those under the sports category,” she said.
Another woman added that they are suffering and living in tin sheds.
“Our families are struggling. These files have been gathering dust for years. How are we supposed to sustain on Rs 8,000?” she said.
The family members mentioned that even if they wanted to admit their children to private schools, they couldn’t afford it. “We also wish to live a better life,” they said.
They appealed to the authorities to look into the matter and take the necessary steps for regularization.
“Our husband and sons have served diligently, but we’ve been living from hand to mouth. We urge the authorities to regularize their services so that we can have a stable future,” they said.
