Our State is among those very few States where students get very less physical training and exercise by way of increasing participation in sports and games. No incentives are provided to the aspirants at middle and high school levels to play tournaments and popularize games like football, hockey, Kabbadi, Kho Kho etc. Inter- school, inter district competitions are rarely taking place especially in Jammu division.
It is a matter of concern that once a magnificent swimming pool in the sports stadium Jammu under the Ministry of sports where students were trained in swimming and water sports is closed for the last many years as its maintenance and upkeep has been found difficult due to reasons not known. The management could have devised means to make this grand swimming pool operational even by throwing it open for five to six hours for non student groups charging moderate fees and earn revenue to meet the maintenance cost of the pool. Hope the concerned authorities look into the matter.
