17 vehicles used for illegal mineral transport seized in Kulgam

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: A day after Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary directed strict action against illegal miners, authorities today seized 17 vehicles used in illegal mining and mineral transportation in Kulgam district.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Department of Geology and Mining, targeted individuals involved in these unlawful activities.
“Police, along with the Geology and Mining Department, seized 17 vehicles in several areas of Kulgam,” authorities stated.
Police reported receiving multiple complaints about illegal mining, which prompted the formation of special teams to respond promptly.
“The operation was conducted under the supervision of SSP Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal,” police added.
The teams raided suspected locations in Thokerpora, Ashmuji, and Bhan, Kulgam, where they seized 17 vehicles, including 11 JCBs and 6 tractors, involved in the extraction and transportation of illegally mined minerals.
Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against those engaged in illegal mineral extraction without proper authorization.
“This operation is part of a sustained effort by Kulgam Police and the Department of Geology and Mining to dismantle the nexus of mineral mafias in the district and protect the region’s natural resources from illegal exploitation,” officials stated.
