LG Ladakh reviews progress of development of handicraft/handloom depts

JAMMU, Dec 17: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) held a meeting with the Director, Industries and Commerce, Sheikh Nazir; Assistant Director, Handicraft, Anjil Singh and Assistant Director, Handloom Department, Imtisaal Rasool, at the LG’s Secretariat to discuss and review the progress of development of handicraft/handloom departments and promotion/empowerment of artisans from Ladakh.
Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, was also present in the meeting. At the outset, the LG inquired about the exercises conducted by both the Assistant Directors of Handloom/Handicraft Departments to develop handicraft/handloom departments and efforts being made to empower and promote women self-help groups (SHGs) and artisans from Ladakh. He also inquired about the steps taken for the exhibition of handicraft/handloom stalls in New Delhi in the coming months.
The LG emphasized making the Brand Ladakh Emporium the best and highlighted the need to address quality and logistic issues at the Brand Ladakh Emporium in New Delhi at the earliest to meet the quality demand of customers visiting the showroom. He also highlighted the need for promotion and marketing of products made by artisans from Ladakh along with training them to come up with products of good quality. He also directed the concerned officials to stock the right items of good quality at the Brand Ladakh Emporium.
Brig MIshra also highlighted the need to encourage artisans to prepare designs of handicraft/handloom products based on the demands of customers to meet their needs.
Director, Industries and Commerce and both the Assistant Directors apprised the LG of the efforts being made by the Department to empower the artisans and SHGs and provide good quality products to the customers at Brand Ladakh Emporium. They also informed the LG of the arrangements being made for the upcoming events in Delhi where products from Ladakh would be showcased.
