JAMMU, May 16: While the BJP candidates give full credit of their victory to Modi wave and dismal performance of the UPA Government at Centre as well as the coalition in the State, the losers are satisfied with the people’s verdict saying that in democracy the ultimate power lies in the hands of people and “we take their decision with humility”.
Three BJP candidates Jugal Kishore Sharma, who won from Jammu -Poonch Lok Sabha Constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh who emerged victorious from Kathua, Udhampur Lok Sabha Constituency and Thupstan Chhewang who emerged victorious from Ladakh Lok Sabha seat while welcoming the people’s decision said that the people were fed up with misrule of UPA II as well as Congress-NC coalition in the State and wanted a change in the governance. They showed the UPA a door and voted in favour of BJP to give it a clear mandate not only to rid the country of coalition politics but also to install a strong Government led by Narendra Modi at the Centre which can lead the nation out of present mess and crisis.
However the Congress candidate from Jammu -Poonch Lok Sabha seat and outgoing MP Madan Lal Sharma welcomed the people’s verdict saying that in democracy the decision lies with the masses and the people all over the country wanted a change and they voted for the same. While welcoming the people’s verdict with humility, he said change is a must in a democracy.
Sharma however said he got the same number of votes which were polled in his favour during the 2008 elections and it was only due to increase in voting percentage that result went against him.
PDP candidate from Jammu Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Yash Paul Sharma also welcomed the verdict of masses saying that the people’s verdict was acceptable to him with all humility.
Meanwhile BJP celebrated the victory of its candidates by taking out victory processions at district and tehsil headquarters distributing sweets and dancing to the beating of drums.
The jubilant BJP activists had installed stalls at various places in Jammu city and other towns where they were seen distributing sweets among the passers by. They were even stopping public as well as private transport to distribute sweets among the inmates of these vehicles and sharing their joy with them.
Soon after the reports came that Jugal Kishore was leading by a huge margin over his Congress rival the jubilant Party activists gathered in front of BJP Office at Kachi Chawni and started dancing to the tune of beating of drums.
Later a huge victory procession was taken out by the Party from Polytechnic College Bikram Chowk. The BJP leaders in the procession including newly elected MP Jugal Kishore Sharma garlanded the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi bridge.
Later they also paid obeisance to Pt Prem Nath Dogra at Dogra Chowk. The highly elated BJP activists dancing to the beating of drums and raising pro Party and pro Narendra Modi slogans marched via Gummat, Raghunath Bazaar, Kanak Mandi, Lakhdata Bazar, Jain Bazaar, Kachi Chawni which culminated into a victory rally at Party headquarters in the evening.
Addressing the rally Jugal Kishore Sharma said that it is the victory of the people of J&K, party workers and Narendra Modi. He said people voted for BJP as they wanted to install a strong leader as Prime Minister of the country.
The people have pinned high hopes in Mr Modi and the newly elected representatives are duty bound to come to their expectations. Jugal said that he will work like a watchman as this victory has added more responsibility on his shoulders and he will not leave any stone unturned to come to the expectations of people.
BJP organizational general secretary Ashok Kaul, whose organizational skills proved of much advantage to the Party by creating history in the State after winning three Lok Sabha seats for the first time, said the BJP has really created a history in J&K for the first time.
Addressing the rally the newly elected BJP MP from Kathua -Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, Dr Jitendra Singh said it is victory of democracy and honesty as well as vindication of BJP’s stand as far as J&K is concerned. It is a time for introspection for coalition who have been making hollow claims by taking the people of the State far granted.
He, while congratulating his party workers said that they deserve all credit for his victory and he will never let them down. Dr Jitendra Singh who emerged as a giant killer after defeating Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said now an added responsibility has come on his shoulders.
Earlier BJP held a victory procession at Kathua also in which a large number of Partymen participated. The procession passed through various markers of Kathua and the jubilant BJP workers were dancing to the tune of beating drums.
The Partymen who described Dr Singh as a giant killer profusely garlanded him. Later on his return to Jammu from Kathua Dr Singh was given a rousing reception by Partymen at Hiranagar and other towns enroute. While addressing the rallies Dr Singh said that the victory has put a greater responsibility on his shoulders and it can’t be discharged without the active support of Party men who are the backbone of Party.
The victory processions were also taken out at Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Samba, Bari Brahamna, Akhnoor, Udhampur, Nagrota, R S Pura, Bishna, Vijaypur and other towns by jubilant BJP men.
Another victory procession was taken out in Leh this evening which passed through various markets of the city.
Addressing the victory rally later BJP leader Thupstan Chhewang who emerged victorious said that the people of Ladakh were victimized during last 60 years and reiterated his resolve to fight for the cause of people of the region.
Reiterating his Party’s stand on UT status for Ladakh, he said the struggle will be launched for this cause after taking the people of both Leh and Kargil districts into confidence and after joint consultations the documents will be framed for the same.
He said the grant of UT Status to Ladakh region is BJP’s mission and Party senior leader and its former National president Nitin Gadkari has given an assurance to the people of Ladakh in this regard also.
BJP activists led by T N Bhat also celebrated Party’s victory at Jagti and took out the procession in township. The BJP Migrant Cell led by Bharat Bushan Gosani also celebrated Party victory.
Meanwhile All Party Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) celebrated NaMo victory by holding a rally at Press Club here. A large number of APMCC activists along with other members of the community attended the rally which was led by King C Bharti, APMCC National spokesperson and Arun Kandroo its general secretary. The jubilant APMCC activist burst crackers and raised pro Modi slogans.
In his address Bharti said that landslide victory of Mr Modi was an indication that good days were coming for India particularly for Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits. He also congratulated BJP candidates Dr Jitendra Singh, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Thupstan Chhewang. He said displaced Pandits had pinned high hopes in Modi as he has promised a delegation of APMCC that good days will return to the community after he takes over as PM when a delegation led by APMCC chief Vinod Pandit called on him at his residence last year.
The Shiromani Akali Dal Badal Jammu held a meeting here today under the leadership of Mahinder Singh its president in which the BJP was congratulated for its landslide victory in Lok Sabha elections in the State as well as in the country.
Kashmiri Displaced United Council convener Vinod Tickoo, Kashmiri Hindu Conference (KHC) convener, P L Kaul Badgami, and Displaced KPS Democratic Party leaders Satish Pajnoo, Pushkar Nath Pandit and Makhan Lal, Roots in Kashmir convener Veer Saraf have also welcomed BJP’s victory.
Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) chief Kundan Kashmiri while welcoming the landslide victory of BJP led by Mr Modi expressed the hope that the new Government as its first priority will work for rehabilitation of Pandits in Kashyap State while KSD president Vijay Raina also welcomed the spectacular victory of the Party.
