JKP intensifies verification drives to curb SIM card misuse

JAMMU, Dec 22: In a concerted effort to prevent the misuse of SIM cards and ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Reasi, Samba, and Rajouri Districts have launched rigorous verification drives targeting SIM card vendor outlets.
The initiative aimed to tackle security concerns, including cyber fraud and potential misuse of SIM cards in anti-national and unlawful activities.
During the drives, records maintained by vendors were thoroughly scrutinized to verify adherence to Department of Telecommunications (DoT) regulations.
In Reasi, the police emphasized the importance of issuing mobile connections responsibly to eliminate avenues for exploitation by malicious entities.
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh highlighted the grave threat posed by SIM card misuse to national security and public safety, urging vendors to fully cooperate with the verification process.
Similarly, Police in Samba District conducted inspections across the district, focusing on verifying customer identity and maintaining accurate records for all issued SIM cards.
SSP Samba Virender Singh Manhas reiterated the need for strict compliance with KYC norms and warned of strict legal actions against violations.
In Rajouri, the police extended their inspection drive across areas like Rajouri, Thanmandi, and Kalakot.
Vendors were instructed to maintain comprehensive physical records, install CCTV cameras, and strictly adhere to all regulatory requirements. Rajouri Police cautioned that non-compliance could lead to penalties, license cancellations, and legal prosecution.
Meanwhile, police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to mobile connections.
