JAMMU, Dec 22: The Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu, achieved a significant milestone by winning the first prize at the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, held in Chennai and organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell.
The winning team, “Instant Ideators”, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for their innovative project. They emerged as winners in their problem domain, standing out among thousands of teams from across India.
The Smart India Hackathon is the world’s largest hackathon, involving over 3 lakh students annually who offer solutions to real-world challenges posed by various Government ministries and organizations. The MIET team was the only one from Jammu & Kashmir to secure the first prize in this year’s competition.
The “Instant Ideators” team was led by Praguni Sanotra (CSE Department, Batch 2022-26) and included Prachi Sharma, Vansh Bargotra, Karishma Wanchoo, Riya Warikoo and Adhvika Jamwal. Their winning project developed a community platform through India Post to connect the Indian diaspora with local sellers, MSMEs, and artisans, promoting traditional and ethnic products.
The team’s achievement was also praised by the Minister of IT, Tamil Nadu, who commended their innovative approach and highlighted the strong gender representation within the team-five female students and one male student, an exceptional example of promoting gender equality in engineering education.
Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director of MIET, provided mentorship to the team, while Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson of MIER Group, congratulated the students. Saurabh Sharma, Assistant Professor of the CSE Department, coordinated the team’s participation.
